Let’s review the negative consequences."

It's a good question. My answer is that the benefits are too narrowly interpreted if you consider only the impact upon human populations. Species that have no way of migrating in time to the regions beneficially affected will become extinct, as has already happened. The land bridge that enabled the migration of the earliest human inhabitants into the North American continent was perhaps highly beneficial to those individuals, but it was probably lethal to the huge mammals that had previously been immune to predation.albert rogershttp://skepticva.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10856048.post-90484872323156869602009-08-17T15:27:53.506-04:002009-08-17T15:27:53.506-04:00There is a perfectly good, safe, sustainable and r...There is a perfectly good, safe, sustainable and renewable solution to the problem of burning fossil carbon.
It is reviewed on Frontline at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/reaction/interviews/till.html
or on my website at http://skepticva.org/EnergyIndependence.html
It is called the Integral Fast Reactor, and was a successful answer to all the fears about nuclear power, except the guilty consciences of those of us who recognize the heinousness of nuclear weapons. It does NOT make nuclear weapons easier to build, and in fact it is designed to consume ALL the transuranic products of current designs. It is unattractive to private industry, probably bevause it is so cheap.

It would supply very nicely the electricity and hydrogen for non-gasoline road vehicles.

The US Navy already uses nuclear power for ALL its capital ships, saving vast amounts of fossil fuels thereby.albert rogershttp://skepticva.orgnoreply@blogger.com
