As atheists number fewer than 10% of the US population, it makes sense for us humanists to link with that vast numbers of those who share many of our core values if we wish humanist values to prevail in the face of the tsunami of attacks by fundamentalists, Republicans, Tea Partyers, anti-choicers, school voucher nuts, climate change deniers, and others who are anti-humanist.
