Amina Filali, a 16 year old Moroccan girl who was victim of rape when she was fifteen, was forced to marry her rapist. This happened after a judge recommended to the families of the victim and the culprit that they marry, "to preserve the honor", according to Moroccan laws. The girl couldn't take it any more after a period of suffering through this unbelievable arrangement and ended her own life.
It is easy to forget, but such while such atrocities are committed due to anachronistic laws that remain on the books to this day in a number of countries, the laws themselves can be traced right back to-the Bible. |
