"They made her an icon, which is impossible to live up to: The world's most glamorous revolutionary leads Chile back into the streets" is the title of an excellent article in the 4/8/12 New York Times Magazine by Francisco Goldman about Camila Vallejo and the student protests in Chile about the shortchanging of public education there. Below is the letter I have just sent to the NYT Mag ---
"Re Francisco Goldman's excellent piece on the Chilean protests and Camila Vallejo (Magazine, April 8), it should be noted that much of Chile's education mess is due to the Pinochet dictatorship's imposition of Milton Friedman's school voucher plan in Chile, the same school voucher plan that Republicans have been pushing in Congress and state legislatures here in the US. We could use a Camila Vallejo here.
